Last night’s interview on Charlie Rose was a delight - touching on the creative process, science, the state of the music business (it no longer thrives), the Gershwin Prize and Paul Simon’s plans for future recordings. You can watch the entire interview in streaming media here:

That of coming to life with a “creative pool” is a very interesting approach to the creative process. However, I think the external influences are always present, and with experience this external influences are more conscious and more selective.
Amazing interview, I would like to comment more, but my English is too limited. Thank you.
I have been a follower of yours all my life and was delighted to be at your concert in Kilkenny, Ireland a few years ago. I can see you are progressing over the years and you are always creative and original.
I too am a musician but have not been able to express my musicality for a good part of my life because I was psychiatrised at an early age. I composed music when I was young but now I have found myself I am composing again.
You were always interested in human rights am I am now part of the human rights struggle myself. I am on the board of a group called MindFreedom International (www.MindFreedom.org/) We are fighting for a non violent revolution in the ‘mental health’ system.
I have composed a freedom song that might interest you. When I get a good recording done I will send it to you. You might find our movement an inspiration for more songs in the future.
In my recently published book ‘Soul Survivor - A Personal Encounter with Psychiatry’ I quoted from your beautiful song ‘Kathy’s Song’.
I look forward to hearing you again in my home town of Cork this summer.
In spirit and support,
Mary Maddock.
