No longer a fan. Tired of pop stars political statements. You guys live in a bubble and have no clue to how most people live.
You do a concert for health care!? You really want more government control! I thought that is what we protested against in the late 60′s.
Government is the problem, not the solution.

Hey Ed,

A couple of points (well, maybe three):

(1) Generally speaking, I’m not a big fan of these AMEX pre-sales. Fan club pre-sales, like those offered by bands with really big online followings (Dave Matthews Band comes to mind), seem a little more honourable. Why set aside a set of tickets for people who have a certain credit card?

(2) My impression is that there weren’t too many seats available today, and those that were on sale were not great. Though I only fond the AMEX Gold password about thirty minutes into the sale, my experience logging on precisely at 9 a.m. was that there were tickets in few back orchestra rows and a few loge/balcony rows available. By 9:30, all the pairs were sold out. Given my opinion of pre-sales, this is pretty much fine by me (though I would’ve preferred a later start time).

(3) Scalping, either outside venues or on StubHub, etc., is just a part of the game, and there’s not much that can be done about it, certainly not by a performer who outsources ticket sales to TicketMaster (often a condition of performing at certain venues). There’s really nothing a guy like Paul Simon can do – even fan-oriented pre-sales get abused by scalpers, because scalpers are really good at what they do.

I was overjoyed to see that Paul Simon would be doing another live appearance. I had a chance to see him a few years ago at Carnegie Hall and it was wonderful. I am chargrined however, at the fact that the ‘greed miesters’ have taken hold of these tickets. Supposedly American Express card holders would have first opportunity at the tickets from 1/25 to 1/31. However going on the site an hour after the tickets were available on 1/25 there were none for either night. But go to Tickets Now and see that tickets are now available up to five times the rate they sold for two hours ago. How can the scalpers have all these tickets this quickly, when the ticket site says there are no tickets available. I had hoped for something better from the Paul Simon promoters than this profileration of pure greed with no regard for true fans of Paul.
